Envocare After All This Time
Envocare Limited has been in existence now for about eleven years. We felt that most people wished to encourage the preservation and improvement of the environment but often lacked easy access to relevant information. So we embarked on our NFP project to provide easily accessible information to promote care of the environment. The word Envocare was created by us as a unique name which we thought contained enough association with the mission to be our non-contentious trademark. It became evident that other businesses were interested in using that name so to protect our brand we registered this mark in the UK, in 2005. Subsequently, one way or another we have been able to fend off infringers, so far.
The site expanded to include more and more, and sometimes with our very small team it has been difficult to do justice to the broad spread of topics. Nevertheless we took the view that it was better to carry on than abandon the project. Throughout we have received feedback which has encouraged us, and for the numerous messages of support from individuals and some organisations we are grateful. However, with the continuously increasing commercialisation of the World Wide Web there has been a decided reluctance, for example, for firms with Google clout to provide links. In the early days we were quoted by the BBC and national newspapers but such contributions today seem to be taboo.
One of our most successful web topics has been recycling. Not in the context of glass or paper but predominantly in the recycling of computers; strangely mobile phones don't figure so highly. Early on, domestic materials were not recycled anywhere near enough but now thankfully, councils have responded to pressures and as a matter of course provide convenient facilities here and in many places abroad. We have received requests for help in how to dispose of hazardous waste and the solution often is to use a specialist firm which not only helps to remove it but usually recycles it as well.
The current global economic crisis has taken its' toll and 'greening' is rapidly disappearing into the long grass. To some extent this is understandable. Day to day survival is paramount and since going green normally has its cost downsides it is not surprising that those on the edge of economic viability should place environmental factors on low priority. Nevertheless we should not forget that climate change is probably one of our greatest enemies, especially for our children and grandchildren.
This same financial crisis is having a profound effect on savings and in particular ethical investment. Not everyone has enough cash to save much but the truth of the matter is that we all need to provide for retirement, even if it comes later than expected. Keeping track of which investment firms offer which funds is a minefield as we've found. Having tried with mixed success to keep on top of current offerings we think our page on Ethical Criteria is one of our more significant offerings.
One of the most important aspects of life, anywhere in the world is energy supply. We all need it to survive and for a better quality of life we need more of it. Historically most of the energy we use has been, and still is, derived from fossil fuels and increasing demands are causing a race to global climate change. Thus we have written a lot about alternative energy. Perhaps a better term would be renewable energy, but even that is not without its' caveats.
Finally, at the top of this Home page we have always included a photo which we thought would be relevant in some way to the beauty of our environment. But, looking back to our beginnings we realised that our first photo image was devoted to giving our visitors a warming welcome. We feel that now we should indulge ourselves in nostalgia and show it again. If you remember it then you've stuck with us for a long time. Thanks.
